The sun is a mixed blessing at fashion week – it can make sitting ringside at the catwalks a little toasty when combined with blazing lights and cramped benches, but it sure as hell makes street style pictures pop. Plus, turning up the heat tends to up the billowy, summer style game of those in attendance.
However, the men at the shows also proved something. Menswear is a tricky beast right now: logos are bold, bumbags are big and it’s not uncommon to see suits worn without shirts on the catwalks – not to mention on the guests watching. While these things might be a little outre for many, what all of this has done is really loosen up and liberate men in what they feel they can get away with wearing in public whatever your personal style.
Embracing personal style is something that the guys in London do very well season-after-season, and it’s something you can take away whatever your vibe. You might be a man who only feels truly comfortable in a suit, but perhaps you might try a kick flare this summer or allow the collar of your Cuban shirt to flap foppishly over your lapels to mix things up a bit.
We sent Robert Spangle, the photographer behind Thousand Yard Style, to capture the best-dressed men out on manoeuvres at London Fashion Week Men’s. We hope they encourage you to break the rules in whatever way you want.
