We’re off work, the sun’s shining and London positively whiffs with the smell of early-summer optimism. So, without further ado, here are three summery style recommendations worth noting – treat yourself now and you’ll look sharp all season long.
1. Basic Rights’ camp collar shirts
Basic Rights has just landed in the UK. If you’ve yet to come across it, the name really does say it all. It’s a rebellious casualwear brand inspired by the rock ’n’ roll youth culture of early ‘70s America, founded by tailor David Chambers (whose client list includes the likes of Bowie and Bryan Ferry) and Freddie Cowan, lead guitarist of The Vaccines. Their camp collar shirts are pin-sharp and distinctly retro, made from Japanese-woven tencel. It’s produced ethically, breathes comfortably and has a handle that’s similar to silk. In a range of earthy colours inspired by the spice markets of Marrakech, these shirts are just the thing to lift your spirits (and keep you cool) as the sun comes out.

2. Hugo Boss’s pineapple sneakers (no, really)
When we got wind of these last month, we were intrigued to say the least. As a part of its ongoing sustainability programme, Hugo Boss has reinvented the sneaker, forgoing leather for a new vegan material called Piñatex. It’s a leather-like product manufactured from pineapple leaf fibres, and harvested as a byproduct of existing agriculture. Like leather, it’s stretch and water-resistant, so these sneakers are as tough as conventional designs, but made using materials that have minimal environmental impact. Their contrasting soles are thought-through, as well; made from recycled TPU, and their lining and laces are made from organic cotton. Even the dyes used to colour each sneaker are plant-based, and the glue that seals each upper to the soles is water-based, too. They’re available in navy and black if you want something sensible, but we suggest you play-up their summery character and opt for tan or lemon – either colour’s guaranteed to put a stylish spring in your step.

3. LONB’s Vagabond all-day holdall
LONB puts the ‘luxe’ into ‘luxury leather goods’. This chic Mount Street-based brand specialises in refined, handmade weekend and overnight bags that are built to last using the best bespoke hardware and exceptionally fine leathers. The Vagabond is an LONB signature, a slouchy, lightweight holdall inspired by the attitude of a classic leather motorcycle jacket. LONB offers it in various natural calfskins, but in dark tobacco suede, it takes on a softer look that’s great for summer. It’s designed with a large exterior pocket for ease of access, plus a secret card pocket and internal compartment with a 13” slide-in laptop pocket, too. Treat yourself and you’ll find yourself rocking it seven days a week, whether to the office, around town on a Saturday, or for your next long weekend away.
