If there’s one thing Italians like more than a cold beer and a nice bit of electoral fraud, it’s chinotto – that odd, bitter, chicory-esque root that divides opinion sharper than a disco party in Berlusconi’s third holiday home.
With triumphant Italian disdain, then, Peroni has married this distinctly Tuscan oddity with its stalwart lager in a beautifully crafted Art Deco bottle, and thrown it out into the world just in time for summer. And against all my instincts, I have to admit it works – in a Campari-esque, tannic, tongue smacking, pretend-I’m-in-a-Fellini-movie kind of way.
And in its new Italy-lite spirit of elections that no-one wanted and only one side can win, London will be celebrating Ambra’s launch from the sun drenched terrace of Somerset house, this evening and across this weekend. What’s more, the Urban Soul Collective (aka the backing band to all Kanye West’s latest tantrums) will be providing the Bunga-Bunga party worthy soundtrack.
Do come down. I’ll be the slightly overweight chap with the wad of hush money, the oversized sunglasses, and two female friends who are definitely, honestly, certainly over 18. See you on the terrace.
The Peroni Ambra party with Urban Soul Collective is on at Somerset House 28-29 April. Find out more here.
