Gone are the days of men’s soap-and-flannel grooming regimes. This edit of five of my favourite products will have you scrubbed up and looking like the best the version of yourself in no time flat. After all, the better prepared you are with a few trusty products in your grooming arsenal, the better the rewards you’ll reap. Looking after anything long term in this increasingly disposable society is becoming an art form in itself, but from your car to your clothes, good maintenance has always been integral. Why should your skin and hair be treated any differently?
1. Lab Series Oil Control Daily Moisturiser
This new launch by LAB Series is a real winner when it comes to controlling oily skin. The oil-free moisturiser will keep your skin looking fresh and hydrated throughout the day, and works for up to eight hours absorbing surface oil. The Amazonian White Clay, which acts as a brilliant and safe absorber of overactive oil-producing glands, also tones down shine, while the salicylic and lactic acids help tighten pores, for clearer looking skin. It comes in a handy size to keep in your bag while on the move. Over time, this proven formula will help fade discolouration and improve skin tone overall.

2. Harry’s ‘The Winston’ razor
Harry’s was founded by Jeff Raider and Andy Katz-Mayfield after they discovered the search for the perfect razor was proving trickier than finding the Holy Grail. The result is some seriously well-engineered products. While the tailored shave sets, which you can get delivered direct to your door, have proved a real success for Harry’s, we love ‘The Winston’ razor for its standout performance. The ergonomic shape and rubberised grip give you total control while shaving, and the weighty die cast zinc body feels good in the hand. The German blades are things of beauty, too: from a factory many car manufacturers would be envious of, they are sharp and durable with a flex hinge, making it easier to reach those hard-to-get places. The precision trimmer for your sideburns is also a clever bit of design engineering.

3. Dr Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Eye Serum
Perhaps we’re just suckers for a product created by a doctor, but there’s no doubt this association has real gravitas when the doctor in question is certified dermatologist Dr Dennis Gross. He’s created a range inspired by visitors to his New York practice. These hardworking professionals with hectic lifestyles are time poor when it comes to their wellbeing and looking after their skin. Step forward the Ferulic + Retinol Eye Serum, which utilises potent ingredients to target tired, baggy and wrinkled eyes. The powerful yet gentle ingredients smooth fine lines and tighten the delicate skin around your eyes, while the ferulic acid protects against sun damage. Gently pat around the eyes morning and night to see real results.

Plant Apothecary Matcha Antioxidant Face Mask
Plant Apothecary was founded six years ago by husband and wife team Holly McWhorter and Bjarke Ballisager. The collection focuses heavily on using organic, environmentally friendly, ingredients. This matcha face mask is a powerful anti-oxidant rejuvenating treatment that brightens the skin while defending against environmental pollutants, thanks to white clay and rich green tea powder, which draws out excess oils, trapped deep within the pores. The organic essentials oils of chamomile quickly sooth and reduce redness and skin irritations for an even tone and a younger complexion. It’s basically a mini facial in a jar.

Patricks SH2 Deep Clean Shampoo
This Sydney based brand has been a real disruptor since it entered the men’s grooming market seven years ago, setting out to create the very best in cutting edge (pardon the pun) hair products. It employs a number of chemists who have engineered a blend of 17 active ingredients that address hair loss, hair growth and scalp health. They’ve also added SPF to protect hair from environmental damage and colour fade. One of their hero products is this SH2, a deep clean shampoo that washes all traces of product and impurities out of the hair in one wash. Naturally, you would argue that’s what all shampoos are designed to do; well, this goes a step further. It’s unique formulation took these Aussie guys years to perfect, cleaning without harsh stripping of the hair natural oils. It features a wonderfully uplifting violet and tobacco leaf cologne, making the hair smell fresh and clean, while the scientifically engineered ingredients get to work on creating thicker, fuller, healthier hair. Sadly, I fear the latter part of this technology is already lost on me.
