Bang & Olufsen X David Lynch: the collaboration none of us saw coming

Art and tech collide in this cool new collection

Occasionally a collaboration comes along that’s so unexpected – but yet undeniably brilliant – that we just have to have everything in it. Such is the nature of the new Bang & Olufsen collaboration with famed film director David Lynch, who has transformed three of the brand’s speakers with his very own limited edition artwork.

Including the BeoPlay P2 audio speaker, the M5 home speaker and A9 speaker, the collaboration features artwork created by the director, screenwriter, artist and musician over his lifetime. They include selected details from his War Between the Shapes series from the 1970s, and from his Paris Suite lithographs created in 2007 at the renowned Idem Paris studio.

This being David Lynch, director of Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks, the designs are as surreal, fantastical and ever-so-slightly disturbing as you could wish. The limited edition collection includes the BeoPlay A9 speaker with a hypnotic red and black graphic design. One of Bang & Olufsen’s largest at-home speakers, it’ll certainly make quite a statement in your sitting room. Other designs include the P2 portable speaker with a dark, brooding, graffiti-esque aesthetic, and the minimalist M5 home speaker, with a kind of modern, abstract design that wouldn’t look out of place in the Tate.

It’s not often that technology and art combine in such a successful – and aesthetically pleasing – way. As a way of showcasing modern art in your home, the collaboration is unbeatable, and a clever solution to how we integrate technology into our home spaces and design choices. Plus, you get extra cool points by saying it’s by David Lynch, too.

Currently on display at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (what could be more modern than this?), the collection will launch in the UK on 8 November 2018. It will be available exclusively from Harrods, as well as online and at selected Bang & Olufsen stores at a later date.
